About EHCO

About EHCO

The European Hockey Clubs Organization (EHCO) brings together the leading hockey clubs of Europe with one clear purpose: to strengthen the role of clubs as the foundation of our sport.

Clubs are where players grow, develop, and prepare for international success. They provide years of training and competition before athletes go on to represent their national teams at the Olympic Games, World Cups, and European Championships. Protecting the balance between *club hockey* and *international hockey* is therefore essential for the future of the sport.

Our Representation

EHCO represents the national club associations of the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Spain, as well as several leading English clubs. Together, these organizations and clubs form the backbone of European hockey, uniting to safeguard their shared interests and strengthen the sport at every level.

Our Mission

EHCO was founded to give clubs a united voice in discussions with the *FIH (International Hockey Federation) and EuroHockey (European Hockey Federation). Together, our member clubs work to:

  • Align calendars between domestic competitions and international events.
  • Safeguard and strengthen the flagship Euro Hockey League (EHL) and the EHCO Trophy, our U19 European club tournament.
  • Protect the 11-a-side format, which embodies the essence of hockey.

A Balanced Season

EHCO advocates for a *clear and consistent seasonal structure* that allows both club and international hockey to thrive:

  • September – November: National league competitions
  • December – February: Winter break, with player release for national teams
  • March – June: Domestic leagues, playoffs, the EHL, and the EHCO Trophy
  • June – August: International tournaments under FIH and EuroHockey

Our Commitment

EHCO represents the collective interests of clubs, but also of fans, sponsors, and the wider hockey community. By ensuring a strong club framework, we safeguard the sport’s future, inspire the next generation, and maintain hockey’s integrity, visibility, and global appeal.
